The Joy of Movement: Playful Practice Explorations at Yoga House - Pasadena

These classes will be a playful, modern movement science informed exploration of yoga and movement. We will explore novel ways to increase our capacity to move with variety, maintain and gain strength and mobility over time, learn new movement skills and have fun doing so. We will look at playful ways to make various poses and movements more accessible, but to also challenge the body and brain to learn new things, get stronger, and become more adaptable.

We will look at how we can use play as a way to explore ways to incorporate tempo variation, dynamic balance, agility, coordinative strength (and maybe even dance!) into our practice. We will play this way not only for our body, but to enhance adult adaptive neuroplasticity–that is, our ability to learn new things throughout our lives.

Most importantly we will celebrate the JOY of MOVEMENT and a chance to gather, practice, and play TOGETHER, in person, once again! To Move Your Body is to Love Your Body.

Let’s do it together,

Carrie

Bands, Bells & Beyond LIVE!

This class explores smart, creative, and playful ways to add some resistance training into your yoga and movement practice. We will still play with our bands, and explore body weight work too, but adding some dumbbells/kettlebells can be such a great way to build overall strength from our feet to our hands and beyond. This work can help increase tissue resiliency, increase bone mass, improve coordination and cognitive skills and enhance confidence! I love the way I feel when working and playing in this way, and am looking forward to sharing the joy and benefits of this ongoing exploration with all of you!

The Predictive Mover: A Pain Science Webinar w/Oliver Crossley, PT

When it comes to sensation and perception, we no longer think of the brain and nervous system as being a passive interpreter of bottom-up sensory information that fuels our conscious experience. Predictive processing now shows us that our expectations and prior experiences/beliefs have considerable impact on what we think and perceive moment to moment. So much so that we can experience considerable pain without any tissue damage. In this webinar we will take a brief deep dive into how our brain and nervous system uses prediction in the sensory experience of pain and movement, and what that means for your yoga and movement practice

Oliver is a physiotherapist, a Yoga practitioner and teacher, a mindfulness practitioner, surfer, mover, and movement optimist! He will take as many of your questions as possible after his presentation and a replay will be available for 7 days to those unable to attend live. It is $25 USD for non-members and will be free for Playground members (the recording will remain in our library for your continued access).
